Black and white

What i find helpful when painting on location, is a real understanding of shadows and light areas. Sometimes photographs darken shadows and bright areas too bright.
Shadows can be filled with color and it is fun to attempt to capture it. This was a piece that i did at San Juan Capistrano Mission. The area where the old mission had suffered when the earthquake hit back in the early 1900's.
This painting is available and is 11 x 14 and framed.
If you would like to buy it please click on the buy now button.
$245.00 and $20.00 to ship.

  1. What a lovely composition, Scott! I've always wanted to see this mission, especially when the swallows come through.

  2. It is a beautiful place! i should have titled this piece "Swallows Nest" or Swallows Chapel something like that! I always appreciate your comments!
