Native American Work

My Wife and I recently moved to Mesa, AZ and within weeks of moving here I became familiar with one of the iconic mountains here in the surrouning area. It is known by Zonies as "Red Mountian" but to the Javapai Indian tribe it is known as "Sacred Mountain" and many tribal leaders that have passed on are buried on the top of this mountain. I experimented with some acrylic molding paste on the bottom portion of the painting and created some rock textures with indian wall ingravings on them. this was a fun piece to create. it is 30 x 40 and available! thank you for looking.

Pure Copper

Copper in the "Raw" as they call it. This design was taken from some of my painted abstract work and converted to a metallic hand manipulated form. The copper is then treated chemically to keep it from tarnishing. this Triptych is 20 x 54 and is available. please contact me at scott@smpalmerart.com for details. Thanks for looking

Painted copper

Another peice painted on copper, except this time a little patina was added and then the painting was created to compliment the natural aspect of the patina. In this case, it was a tree that would work with this earthy pattern. The piece is 8 x 20 and is available. please contact me at scott@smpalmerart.com for details. thank you for looking.

Painting on Copper

I recently was given a piece of copper and encouraged to use it as a painting surface. I buffed the surface first to create some texture and then jumped in with my oils. it was a simple piece and at first very frustrating to paint on. But once i had the first few layers down it became a joy to paint on. and the result was a wonderful luminosity that i had not had with other pieces. I will continue to paint on this surface. i love it. this piece is 6 x 12 and available. Email me for details on the purchase.

At Home on The Range

The more that i continue to paint outdoors, the more i am finding comfort in pastoral settings. Ive never lived on a farm, ive never been around cows that much but it is so serene and peaceful. I guess Psalm 23 is true in that when we are led to green pastures and beside still waters that our souls will be comforted and we will know who the great shepherd really is!

This piece was done for a client as a commission. it is 14 x 18 and in Oil.

Online Painting Challenges

Daily Paintworks is a website that features artists who post a painting everyday. What a challenge that is. But they also offer other challenges for artists who are looking to be stretched or paint outside their comfort zone! I recently participated in one of these challenges. the challenge use only 4 colors. ultramarine blue, cad yellow, cad red, and white. and paint flowers which i do not usually do! and do it all in under an hour. ok. my daughter is asleep...so i thought, here we go! I did a small piece, 6 x 8, in oil. and here is the result. It was a fun challenge and i will be doing more of these!!!!
